This blog is going to be a bit different to any I have written before…I’m hoping that by getting something off my chest it will work as a form of therapy. As you guys know I try to lead a fairly positive life but we’re all human and now and again I get pretty pissed off too 😉
Last night I was scrolling through Instagram and came across something that threw me off a little. If you already follow what I do you’ll know that a new part of my business is running my Natural Beauty Masterclasses. This is an idea I created towards the end of last year, mainly because I get asked so many questions about skincare and natural makeup that it just made sense. I love sharing information and try to make these events friendly and open to anyone, which is why I was a bit sad to discover what I did last night.
As I was looking at Instagram admiring pictures of cute puppies and smoothie bowls, a post popped up which looked rather familiar. It was promoting a ‘beauty masterclass’ almost identical in structure and content to the one I ran last October. I then realised it was being hosted by someone who had come along as a guest to my first masterclass.
I understand that no idea is truly original and we all influence each other creatively but I couldn’t believe how similar this event was and I don’t think this woman would have come along to my masterclass to learn about face masks… Ironically her entire business is marketed as an organisation supporting and empowering woman too…hmmm.
My business is my baby, I love what I do and everyone who knows me knows that I put huge amounts of energy, love and time into it. When I saw this post on social media, crazy thoughts started rushing though my mind in order to protect my baby. Should I contact her directly? Should I publicly name and shame on social media? I even considered the possibility of seeking legal advice. These were all very temping ideas.
For now I have chosen to try and focus on the positive aspects of this situation. The woman I’m speaking about must have enjoyed the masterclass with me in order to copy it to such an extent.
It has also given me the drive to continue to do what I’m doing but even better. Not to get stuck on one thing and to generate new, innovative ideas.
Here are some rad girls in the natural beauty world including formulators, makeup artists and holistic therapists who inspire me in many individual ways and who are true experts in their field.
