Foundation is something I get asked about all the time! This tends to be the first item of makeup people buy when transitioning into using green beauty products. In terms of makeup this is one of the products I would recommend swapping with your conventional brand, mainly because foundation is covering a larger surface area than eyeshadow or mascara for example so more of the ingredients are likely to enter your body. There are quite a few ‘green’ makeup brands out there now and I’m yet to try them all but here are three foundations that get the thumbs up from me.
My absolute number one favourite foundation is from an American brand called ‘Vapour’. They have two different formulas, one which is a creamy stick and a the other a liquid. The finish is radiant and glowing. It’s hard to explain but it just makes your skin feel so silky and I always seem to look much more awake and healthy instantly when I’m wearing it. It’s a little pricey starting at £38 liquid one but a little goes a long way. I personally like to look ‘glowing’ but if you don’t you may want to put a little powder on top of this one.
If you’re looking for a foundation that gives slightly higher coverage then you might want to give RMS un-cover up a try. It’s very thick and designed to also be also be a concealer but you can easily blend it out with your fingers or a brush. I’ll tend to use this one if I’m having a particularly bad skin day! If I’m not wearing it as foundation then I’ll use a little to dab under my eyes.
It’s made with some lovely ingredients, including, beeswax, jojoba oil and coconut oil so it helps to moisturise and condition your skin rather than just cover it up.
My latest recent discovery is from Lavera. I was a little sceptical at first as it’s very reasonably priced at £12.90 but the ingredients list speaks for itself with jojoba seed oil, coco butter and shea butter and no sign of any nasties so I decided to take a chance! I’ve tried this quite a few times and have been really impressed with the coverage and natural finish it gives. It’s also available in quite a wide range of shades which is brilliant!
If you’ve already started to ‘clean up’ your beauty regime I’m sure that you’ll see an improvement in your skins appearance and you may even discover that you’ll be happier to go foundation free more often!
